Woody Allen continuing to be muddied by American Apparel

Via film drunk,

It seems that Woody Allen is suing American Apparel because they used his likeness in one of their ad campaigns without his permission. The ad is above, and I can see the Anti-Semitism it might inspire. The Jewish prejudice aside, I don't even get the ad. Are they advertising to Jewish people, are they insulting them, or is it an ironic message that both targets them as consumers and pokes fun at the Hasidic aspects of conservative Judaism? Either way, you can understand why Woody would file suit (although $10 million seems excessive). The real issue lies in American Apparels response.
They figured that since his messy 1992 divorce from Mia Farrow to wed his adopted child there was no way to embarrass him further, so using his likeness in the image above is really not libelous at all.
American Apparel says that it can’t have damaged Allen’s reputation by using his image because the film director has already ruined it himself. The company plans to make Allen’s relationships to actress Mia Farrow and her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn the focus of a May 18 trial , according to the company’s lawyer, Stuart Slotnick. “Our belief is that after the various sex scandals that Woody Allen has been associated with, corporate America’s desire to have Woody Allen endorse their product is not what he may believe it is.”
Seems pretty harsh on American Apparel's part, but Woody did fuck his adopted child. That's pretty fuckin' despicable. Allen though fought back today:
In papers filed Wednesday by his lawyers, the 73-year-old Allen said American Apparel Inc. went too far in requesting information about his family life, personal finances and career.

The new court papers said American Apparel has “adopted a `scorched earth’ approach,” issuing broad document requests and subpoenas to many people close to him, including his sister.

Allen’s lawyers said the company was seeking to “tarnish Mr. Allen’s reputation a second time” and called it a “despicable effort to intimate” him.

Allen also said ads shown to him by American apparel, including his rabbi ad , “have a sleazy quality to them” and were “not classy.”

American Apparel clothing makes me want to vomit, and Woody Allen hasn't made a good movie in a long time (I guess Vicki Christina Barcelona is a caveat since I think they have a three-some which is nice), so I can't side with either of them. Every time I picture Woody fuckin' that Asian child, I can't help getting creeped out. I think and American Apparel is the McDonald's of clothing and fashion, but I don't think they ever slept with their adopted child.

Really just terrible all around. I am gonna have to put up some hot chick photos next because this was a depressing story.
